  1. Ravens notes: Salary cap won't prevent team from filling needs

With free agency set to begin on March 13, there have been a lot of questions about where the Ravens sit with the salary cap. That cap hasn&rsquo;t been officially set, though it&rsquo;s expected to be similar to last year&rsquo;s number. Either way, all indications are that the Ravens are in decent shape with the cap, certainly in better position than they have been the past couple of offseasons. That doesn&rsquo;t mean that the Ravens have the room to go on a free-agent shopping spree, because that won&rsquo;t happen. That doesn&rsquo;t fit with their organizational philosophy anyway. But it does mean that they should be able to keep a couple of their higher-priority free agents (<strong>Ben Grubbs</strong> will probably price out of their range) while also filling one or two needs with outside free agents. And they should get a little more flexibility by either releasing or restructuring the contracts of cornerbacks <strong>Chris Carr</strong> and <strong>Domonique Foxworth</strong>, and wide receiver <strong>Lee Evans</strong>.

  3. Ravens' pursuit of new deal with Ray Rice starts now

Ravens officials watched, occasionally with jaws dropped, as Ray Rice danced and darted around opposing defenders in his first four NFL seasons. Now the time has come for the Ravens to wrap up Rice and make sure that the diminutive running back remains one of the focal points of their offense going forward.

  5. Quiet Yanda lowers boom for Ravens

If you really want to appreciate the violence of football when the Ravens take on the Indianapolis Colts at M&T Bank Stadium Sunday, take your eyes off Ray Rice and Joe Flacco for a second and focus on right guard Marshal Yanda.

  7. Webb aiming to be Ravens' shutdown corner

Is it a coincidence that Lardarius Webb, who wears No. 21, is beginning to show signs of succeeding the Ravens&rsquo; previous shutdown corner in Chris McAlister, who also wore No. 21 before leaving the team in 2008?

  9. Ed Reed is rooting for Ochocinco

One aspect missing from the buildup of Sunday&rsquo;s AFC North clash between the Ravens and the Cincinnati Bengals is the lack of barbs usually crafted by wide receiver Chad Ochocinco.

  17. Ravens rookie Jimmy Smith hits ground running in first practice

What stood out from Jimmy Smith's first NFL practice is that it didn't look like it was the cornerback's first NFL practice.

  19. Your turn: Would Stover make it onto your Mount Ravemore?

Matt Stover will announce his retirement from the NFL on Thursday, formally ending the memorable career of one of the greatest players in Ravens history. The oh-so steady kicker coolly booted field goal after field goal for 13 years in Baltimore, and the Ravens wouldn&rsquo;t have won Super Bowl XXXV without him.

  21. Ravens receive solid marks for draft from national experts

Perhaps the best way to grade this year's Ravens draft is to look at the smile on the face of Eric DeCosta, who walked into the team's news conference on crutches after tearing his Achilles' tendon earlier this month.

  23. It's up to Jimmy Smith to decide if he wants to be a stud or thug

The rollercoaster first round of the NFL draft again lived up to its prime-time billing Thursday night, with twists (four quarterbacks going in the first 12 picks), turns (former top prospects Da&rsquo;Quan Bowers and Nick Fairley free-falling) and some queasiness in Baltimore when the clock ran out on the Ravens around 10:45 p.m. But at the end of the thrill ride, the Ravens got their guy.
