Question: Where do you put USC's chances of knocking Notre Dame off? Chris Larsen Answer: I put the chances smack dab between my bobbleheads of Tommy Trojan and Lou Holtz. Seriously, I think USC has a decent chance. My colleague Gary Klein made an...

The Southeastern Conference has been accused of a lot of things through the years — but a scam? The league is cutthroat, for sure, and often overzealous in praise of itself. The SEC is wildly talented and over the top, with many of its fans...

  20. The Times' top 25 college football teams

The Southeastern Conference, taken out of the national title hunt for as long as three non-SEC teams keep winning, mostly takes the week off as it openly cheers for upsets of Oregon, Kansas State and Notre Dame. SEC schools bully up to play seven 1-AA schools this week, which is seven more than Notre Dame, USC and UCLA have ever scheduled. The SEC is believed to be the first league to stage an exhibition season inside a regular season, but the scary part is Alabama A&M might beat Auburn.
