Thursday's multi-sport college and local roundup: Bentley gains ODU's starting quarterback job

COLLEGES: Football: Old Dominion coach Bobby Wilder named redshirt freshman Shuler Bentley the Monarchs’ starting quarterback. Wilder told the Virginian-Pilot that Bentley performed so well in ODU’s five weeks of spring workouts that there was no point in delaying the decision until the summer. The Monarchs are trying to replace record-setting Taylor Heinicke. Blake LaRussa, a walk-on freshman from Bishop Sullivan Catholic, passed junior-college transfer Joey Verhaegh as the top backup quarterback.
