1. Ray Lewis on weight loss: 'It's awesome, I feel great'

Convinced that maintaining his mobility is the key to remaining a force at age 37, Ravens All-Pro middle linebacker Ray Lewis dieted and exercised his way down to his lightest weight since he was a rookie.

As a rookie Courtney Upshaw is bound to make mistakes. But if the Ravens rookie outside linebacker erred in his first practice of training camp Thursday, inside linebacker Jameel McClain didn’t notice.

  7. ESPN's Wiley says Ravens' Reed, Lewis are still leaders on 'D'

I reached out to ESPN analyst Marcellus Wiley to chat with him about the "aging" Ravens defense for a story that ran in Saturday's newspaper, but I didn't hear from Wiley until after I had sent my story into my editors Friday night (I'll cut Marcellus some slack since he's operating on West Coast time). Anyway, I still wanted to pass along his thoughts, especially since he thinks the Ravens will contend for a Super Bowl again this season.

  9. Replace Suggs? First Kruger has to prove he can be an every-down player in the NFL

With the season-threatening injury to Terrell Suggs and the departure of Jarret Johnson in free agency, outside linebacker Paul Kruger was asked repeatedly this offseason about the pressure he feels to fill some rather large shoes on the Ravens defense. But Kruger, a part-time player in his first three NFL seasons, said that before he worries about replacing Suggs, he first needs to prove that he can be an every-down player.

  11. Replacing others not part of Haloti Ngata's job description

The Ravens lost two defensive starters in outside linebacker Jarret Johnson and defensive end Cory Redding and will be without outside linebacker Terrell Suggs, a five-time Pro Bowler and the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, for a good portion of the upcoming season.

  13. How will absences impact the Ravens' run defense?

The Ravens have been ranked in the top 10 against the run in 12 of the last 13 years and in the top five for six consecutive seasons. But with the unit losing a pair of outside linebackers in Terrell Suggs (torn right Achilles tendon) and Jarret Johnson (free agent who departed for the San Diego Chargers) who were often overlooked for their ability to force opposing running backs to the middle of the defense, can the defense continue that strong tradition?

  17. Burning questions for the AFC North's four teams

With three teams making the playoffs and two winning 12 games during the regular season, the AFC North was arguably the NFL’s most competitive division last season. Unfortunately for the Ravens, it figures to be hyper-competitive again in 2012 -- well, except for anything involving the ever-rebuilding Cleveland Browns.
