1. Ravens cut Painter, Wragge; keep Kindle, Thompson, Rainey

The Ravens made a series of roster moves to get their roster down to the limit of 53 players by the NFL deadline Friday night, and once the dust settled, linebacker Sergio Kindle still had a job with the defending AFC North champions.

  9. Tandon Doss staying out of the speculation business

After an unimpressive rookie campaign that ended with zero catches in just six games, Tandon Doss might be reasonably concerned about his status with the Ravens. But the organization’s fourth-round pick in 2011 said he’s not in the business of trying to figure out what the coaches think.

  11. Ravens have plenty of choices at wide receiver

One has been the talk of training camp with his acrobatic catches. Another towers over Ravens defensive backs in practice. One literally turned heads with his speed during spring workouts. And another is just trying to stay healthy long enough to work consistently with quarterback Joe Flacco.

  15. Anquan Boldin counting his blessings for his longevity in the NFL

Anquan Boldin is the 10th-oldest player on the Ravens roster, but the wide receiver isn’t bemoaning his status in a sport that covets speed and youth. In fact, Boldin is grateful that he is entering his 10th year in the NFL.

  17. Undrafted wide receiver Deonte Thompson showing flashes at Ravens training camp

Wide receiver Deonte Thompson, an undrafted rookie from Florida, turned heads during offseason workouts by blazing past defenders for a few long touchdown passes. Early in training camp, the 23-year-old speedster has been running routes with fellow wide receivers Tandon Doss and LaQuan Williams on the second unit.

  19. John Harbaugh tight-lipped about plan for Falcons

John Harbaugh is well-renowned for keeping his cards close to the vest. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Ravens coach was coy about revealing his plan for the team’s preseason opener against the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night.

  21. Ravens news, notes and opinions

The Ravens had 13 players not participating in any part of practice Saturday and another two (tight end Ed Dickson and linebacker Darry Blackstock) who didn’t finish the workout because of injuries. The potentially season-ending Achilles tear to linebacker Terrell Suggs was the biggest blow obviously, but the loss of practice time for first or second-year players like Bernard Pierce (hamstring), Tandon Doss (hamstring), Jah Reid (calf), Courtney Upshaw (shoulder) and Jimmy Smith (back) shouldn’t be overlooked. Upshaw is the only one on the list that was a near certain starter, though Smith is competing with Cary Williams for a starting role. But the rest of the above-mentioned group figure to, at the very least, be key reserves. Ravens coach John Harbaugh does a great job not publicly fixating or fretting about injuries, but I’d have to imagine the coaching staff is getting anxious with how much practice time these guys are missing. The good news is Upshaw says he is real close to a return and Doss said that he expects to practice today.

1. The final preseason game usually isn't exciting for casual fans -- if they even tune in -- but it is high drama for the roster hopefuls who can sense their football careers coming to a close.
