  1. Matt Vensel's 2012 NFL mock draft -- version 1.0

    This year’s NFL scouting combine begins Wednesday, unofficially marking the start of draft speculation season. Before the prospects are poked and prodded, though, staff writer Matt Vensel has taken his first crack at predicting the first round of April’s NFL draft. (This mock draft does not account for potential trades.)

  5. Reader Q&A: Dan Pompei's Bears mailbag

    <strong>I know that the Bears are on the hook for a lot of money with Julius Peppers, but wouldn't it make sense for them to acquire Mario Williams? The Peppers and Williams combination would be unblockable, and would severely limit the high powered offense of Rogers and Stafford. Also, it would require them to keep their TE's at the line to pass protect, rather than killing us the way that Jermichael Finley routinely does. Despite our glaring need for a WR, in my opinion our team is way better with Mario Williams than any other combination of free agents or draft picks, and we'd be set with a good pass rush for several years. Do you agree?</strong> -- Jon Litwin, Chicago
    Chicago Tribune reporter

  7. Up next for Ravens: the remade Houston Texans

    The Houston Texans are, in many ways, a different team than the one the Ravens prepared for when they hosted them back in Week 6. But the fact that the Texans will return to M&amp;T Bank Stadium on Sunday, Jan. 15 for an AFC Divisional Round game speaks volumes about their depth &#8212; and determination.

    The playoffs tend to bring out the best in players, coaches and teams, which is what Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco is expecting from the Houston Texans when they visit M&amp;T Bank Stadium on Sunday.

  11. Jaworski defends Flacco, says Ravens can be super

    Monday Night Football analyst Ron Jaworski still lives in New Jersey and is friendly with Delaware football coach K.C. Keeler, so it is fair to say that the former NFL quarterback has closely followed the growth and development of Ravens&rsquo; signal caller, Joe Flacco, a Garden State native and a former Blue Hen.

  13. Texans defense has turned into one of the league's best

    Having lost their starting quarterback and their highest-paid defensive player in the middle of the season, the Houston Texans are arguably the unlikeliest team left in the NFL's final eight.

    HOUSTON (AP) &mdash; Ben Roethlisberger can take a hit.
    AP Sports Writer
    HOUSTON (AP) — Ben Roethlisberger can take a hit. But even a 6-foot-5, 241-pound guy has a tough time dealing with the beating he’s endured this year. The quarterback left Houston in a walking boot on his left foot after he was sacked five...

  23. Ravens news, notes and opinions

    Entering Sunday, <strong>Ray Rice</strong> was tied for 12<sup>th</sup> in the NFL with 66 carries to go along with 16 catches. Because something good happens seemingly every time Rice touches the ball, I&rsquo;ve heard numerous people say that the Ravens need to get him the ball even more. That may be true, but it&rsquo;s appropriate to point out that Rice has seen a significant increase in touches compared to the first four games of last year. His 82 touches are 11 more than he had through four weeks last year when he had 60 rushes and 11 receptions. And that holds true even though Rice has played sporadically in fourth quarters because really only one of the Ravens&rsquo; games this season has been still in doubt at that point in the game.&nbsp;
