1. Ravens' MVP this season may not be on the field

The Ravens' Most Valuable Player of the 2013 season could be Mark Smith.
The Ravens' Most Valuable Player of the 2013 season could be Mark Smith. Smith is the team's head athletic trainer and responsible for trying to get the injured players back on the field as soon as possible, but also at 100 percent. Despite some great...

3. After successful draft, Ravens need to focus on finding a left tackle

The Ravens still have holes. They need to find a starting left tackle, and they could use a No. 2 receiver and add depth at the linebacker and offensive line positions as well.

5. Anquan Boldin has stepped up big time for Ravens in postseason

When Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome considers whether to bring back veteran wide receiver Anquan Boldin and his $6 million salary for another season, maybe he should rewind the game film of the Ravens' 28-13 win over New England in the AFC championship game two weeks ago.

7. Joe Flacco says young receivers are talented enough to get the job done

The football rarely hit the ground, at least not when Joe Flacco was throwing and wide receivers Tandon Doss, Deonte Thompson and David Reed were the targets.
The Baltimore Sun
The football rarely hit the ground, at least not when Joe Flacco was throwing and wide receivers Tandon Doss, Deonte Thompson and David Reed were the targets. It was just a routine organized team activity practice this week, but it offered an early...

9. Ravens news, notes and opinions after Wednesday's OTAs

As I expected, there was a lot more made of who didn’t show up at this week’s organized team activities than who did. The absences of Terrell Suggs, Haloti Ngata and Vonta Leach in particular seemed to spur the most questions. Again, the workouts are voluntary and some players choose to stay home and work out on their own. Coach John Harbaugh pointed out that the team didn’t see Ray Lewis much – if at all – in the offseason. Ed Reed wasn’t exactly a fixture at OTAs either. And Joe Flacco mentioned that Anquan Boldin wasn’t traditionally at the facility this time of year either. The comments weren’t made to disparage any of the three players but the point was made. The Ravens knew that those players would be ready to go when needed, which is the same feeling they have with the likes of Suggs, Ngata, Leach and Marshal Yanda, who also was a no-show. The Ravens have 90 players on their roster and all but about six of them were on the field in some capacity. And another veteran, Jacoby Jones, is expected to arrive today after his third-place finish in Dancing with the Stars. That should be far more the story than the handful of players who didn’t show at a workout they technically didn’t have to be at.

“You don’t replace Anquan” Boldin.
“You don’t replace Anquan” Boldin. Those are the words of Tandon Doss, the man who is expected to be one of the leading combatants in the offseason royal rumble to replace the veteran receiver who was traded to the San Francisco...

13. Same ol' Flacco but a different Ravens' team prepares for 2013

Joe Flacco is no longer barraged with questions about former offensive coordinator Cam Cameron, finding consistency or even his capability to win the big game. Now the owner of one of the richest contracts in the history of the sport and two weeks away from receiving a sparkling Super Bowl ring, Flacco's status as the Ravens' franchise quarterback will probably never be this secure.

15. At start of OTAs, who's there is far more important than who isn't

Who is there, or more appropriately, who isn’t? That undoubtedly will be the most popular question this week as the Ravens start the first of three sessions of organized team activities. The sessions will run from May 21 to 23, May 29 to 31 and June 4 to 6, leading into the mandatory veteran minicamp, which starts on June 11.
