1. Steelers RB Jonathan Dwyer providing stability in backfield

PITTSBURGH (AP) — There is nothing imposing about Jonathan Dwyer. No flash. No ankle-breaking open field moves.
AP Sports Writer
PITTSBURGH (AP) — There is nothing imposing about Jonathan Dwyer. No flash. No ankle-breaking open field moves. That isn't the way the third-year Pittsburgh Steelers running back operates. He is more direct than dazzling. Get the ball. Pick a...

3. Ravens news, notes and opinions

The Ravens had 13 players not participating in any part of practice Saturday and another two (tight end Ed Dickson and linebacker Darry Blackstock) who didn’t finish the workout because of injuries. The potentially season-ending Achilles tear to linebacker Terrell Suggs was the biggest blow obviously, but the loss of practice time for first or second-year players like Bernard Pierce (hamstring), Tandon Doss (hamstring), Jah Reid (calf), Courtney Upshaw (shoulder) and Jimmy Smith (back) shouldn’t be overlooked. Upshaw is the only one on the list that was a near certain starter, though Smith is competing with Cary Williams for a starting role. But the rest of the above-mentioned group figure to, at the very least, be key reserves. Ravens coach John Harbaugh does a great job not publicly fixating or fretting about injuries, but I’d have to imagine the coaching staff is getting anxious with how much practice time these guys are missing. The good news is Upshaw says he is real close to a return and Doss said that he expects to practice today.

5. Even after drafting Pierce, the Ravens still have decisions to make at running back

Here is a question that the Ravens will have to answer in the coming weeks: Will they be comfortable going into the season without an experienced backup behind Ray Rice?

7. What the Bears should've learned from Sunday (but probably didn't)

What I learned about the Bearsfrom the Giants-Niners NFC Championship Game: The Niners reminded me of the Bears who went to Super Bowl 41 and lost to Indianapolis. The 2006 Bears had a quarterback who could kill you as quickly as he could win a game for...

9. R.Williams joins exclusive club

With his 10-yard run late in the second quarter of the Ravens’ 24-16 eventual win against the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday evening, running back Ricky Williams became the 26th player in NFL history to amass 10,000 rushing yards in a career.

11. Angelo wanted a solution, and he got it

Jerry Angelo famously said he wanted a few solutions, and Tuesday, the Bears finally opted for one of the smartest: firing Angelo.

15. NFL: Packers' perfect season ends

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Mike McCarthy never put a whole lot of stock in a perfect season, except as a means of gaining home-field advantage and setting the Green Bay Packers (13-1) up for another Super Bowl run.

17. Offense anemic as Bears fall to Chiefs

A report before Sunday's game said Mike Martz will not return next season as the Bears offensive coordinator. If a painfully bad 10-3 loss to the Chiefs at Soldier Field weighs in the final decision, perhaps he won't.

19. Fantasy Fodder: So Jamaal Charles got hurt; now what?

When Jamaal Charles tore his ACL on Sunday, any hopes the Kansas City Chiefs had of making it back to the NFL playoffs were shredded. The season-ending injury to Charles, a top-five pick in most fantasy leagues, is also a devastating blow to fantasy owners who were banking on a monster season from the dual-threat back.
