Story | Dec 7, 2013 | 9:55 AMSome notes off morning skate today at venerable Joe Louis Arena Rookie center Aleksander Barkov is showing off the toughness he learned when playing against adults in the elite Finnish league by shaking off Thursday night’s lower-body injury (ankle?). He’s playing tonight against the Red Wings. That’s bad news again for veteran center Scott Gomez who bag skated and will be scratched for the second straight game. Joining him in the pressbox will be defenseman Mike Mottau and probably Jesse Winchester. Tim Thomas will make his 14th straight start in net, continuing to render Scott ‘Maytag’ Clemmensen as a forgotten man. … Tomas Kopecky, who returned Thursday after missing five games with an elbow injury, also continues to prove how tough he is. He led the boys in stretch and although he didn’t get an assist Thursday, he deserved one with a beautiful cross-ice outlet pass to Dmitry Kulikov, who then fed Mike Weaver for an open slapper that was rebounded by Tomas Fleischmann for a goal. Erik Gudbranson, whose starting to show off his offensive skills that he had in juniors, said he looks forward to giving former teammate Stephen Weiss a “love tap,’’ tonight. … Gudbranson has two, two-point games in his last five games. … Red Wings great Pavel Datsyuk (concussion) is out tonight but he has been cleared to play in the rematch on Tuesday in the BB&T Center. ... Red Wings goalie Jonas Gustavsson may have won the starting job from Jimmy Howards as he is now 8-0-1 with a 2.04 GAA vs. Howard’s 6-8-6, 2.70 GAA numbers. ... Old pal Mikael Samuelsson, who was a key special teams player during the Panthers run to the playoffs two years ago, has just three points in 18 games. … The Panthers will see Sens icon Daniel Alfredsson with the wings across his chest for the first time. The ageless Alfie’s got 23 points in 25 games. … The Panthers get a break without Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg (30 points) and Darren Helm in the lineup, however the Red Wings still come in on a 5-1 roll.
