  1. Stadium full of memories at age 10

It seemed a rare and perfect opportunity to take revenge on history. Twenty-three years after the Colts had abandoned Baltimore, they were on their way back for a playoff game. A 13-3 Ravens team lay in wait with the franchise's typical great defense...

  3. In 50 years since, nothing like 'The Greatest Game Ever Played'

It matters not that their gaits are slowed and frames stooped, the result of ancient wounds and the passing of decades. These former Baltimore Colts - the 1958 Baltimore Colts - are arrested in the collective mind's eye of generations of football fans in the flower of their strength, swiftness and fortitude.

  5. Ex-Colts connecting again

Look at the picture, taken in a dime-store photo booth in 1955. What do you see? A black-and-white snapshot of black and white buddies hanging out - in black-and-white, segregated times. They seem an odd pair. One wears a wide smile, a starched shirt and a bow tie. He glows with the naivete of Barney Fife. His friend, dressed casually, is smiling, too. But his is a weathered, worldly smile, a look born, perhaps, of the day. Both men, then Baltimore Colts rookies, would leave their mark on pro sports.

  7. Ravens get glimpse of their future

After failing to repeat as Super Bowl champions, the Ravens overhauled their entire roster in 2002, releasing veterans including tight end Shannon Sharpe, defensive end Rob Burnett, wide receiver Qadry Ismail, safety Rod Woodson and defensive tackle Sam Adams in a salary cap purge while defensive tackle Tony Siragusa announced his retirement.

  13. 'We won't see another Johnny Unitas'

    Sun Staff
Mourners said goodbye to John Unitas yesterday, evoking memories of a steely, Hall of Fame quarterback and a tender father who stayed close to his coal-shoveling roots. Cardinal William H. Keeler said he found "sanctity" in the man who threw footballs as...

    Sun Staff
Every time Gino Marchetti takes a step, he remembers The Game. It was Dec. 28, 1958. Marchetti's Baltimore Colts were playing the New York Giants in what is now known as The Greatest Game Ever Played. It was fourth down. Marchetti had just made the...

  17. No. 19 was No. 1 in city, my house

    Sun Staff
The first words I remember are "Get the baby out from in front of the TV." I was 3 years old when the Baltimore Colts beat the New York Giants in the 1958 NFL championship game, so it's a safe bet that my father wanted an unobstructed view of the man...
