Williams, Fischer help USA women strike gold at World University Games

Edison High graduate Alys Williams scored a goal in the final as the U.S. women’s national water polo team beat Hungary, 16-9, to win the World University Games gold medal on Tuesday in Taipai, Taiwan.

Williams, who finished her senior year at UCLA last spring, scored in the second quarter to help Team USA earn a 10-3 halftime lead.

Laguna Beach High graduate Aria Fischer, who is headed to Stanford, also contributed for Team USA. The team went 8-0 in the tournament, including a 13-8 semifinal win over Japan and a 13-7 quarterfinal win against Canada.
