1. Our Picks: Javier Colon and Taylor Hicks both performing in Fairfield County this weekend

This week, we've got two performers in town who've made names for themselves by winning those TV talent shows that people seem to enjoy so much for some reason. Taylor Hicks won "American Idol"back in 2006 and Stratford native Javier Colon won"The Voice" just last year. See 'em both, live and in person, if you can rip yourselves away from your TVs for a couple of hours.

  5. Paula Poundstone does her stand-up on March 23 at Ridgefield Playhouse

There's a whole generation of listeners who know comedian and author Paula Poundstone through her regular appearances on NPR's radio show "Wait, Wait… Don't Tell Me." But catch Poundstone at her untethered, improvisational best when she brings her stand-up routine to the Ridgefield Playhouse on Friday. The veteran comic will also be on hand to sign copies of her book in the lobby after the show, so bring a couple of extra bucks.

  9. The Saw Doctors perform at The Ridgefield Playhouse on March 18

It's that time of year again, when Irish-themed everything takes over the area clubs. This Sunday, The Saw Doctors will perform at the Ridgefield Playhouse, a band that topped the Irish charts for nine consecutive weeks in 1990 and holds the record for the country's all-time biggest-selling single, "I Useta Lover." Expect to see lots of green clothing. Guinness will be involved too, of course —a free Guinness Black Lager tasting will take place in the lobby from 7:15-7:45 p.m.

  15. Travis Tritt performs at The Ridgefield Playhouse on March 9

I am by no means an expert on country music. The honest truth is, I'm not sure I've ever heard any of Travis Tritt's five number one hits, which include "Help Me Hold On", "Anymore", "Can I Trust You With My Heart", "Foolish Pride" and "Best of Intentions", all released between 1990 and 2000. But he's playing at the Ridgefield Playhouse this Friday night, and seven of his albums have sold in excess of 25 million copies, so it would seem that I'm the one who's missing out. Ticket holders are welcome to enjoy a free glass of wine with dinner the night of the event at the Ancient Mariner (451 Main St., Ridgefield) before the show.

  21. Wilson Phillips at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Feb. 23

I know that there is pain. But you hold on for one more day. Break free from the chains. Yeah, that was Wilson Philips. You know the words. Everyone does. Hear them sung live at the Ridgefield Playhouse on Thursday night. It's Brian Wilson's daughters (the Beach Boy) and Michelle and John Phillip's daughter (The Mamas and the Papas), and they're back on the scene after their mega-radio-hits 20 years ago.
