9. Crime & Punishment: Skateboarding Teenage Flasher on the Loose in Darien

Over the last five years, the Town of Woodbridge has paid Fire Marshal Michael Cavanagh for about 2,000 hours he did not work because Cavanagh was unaware that his hours had been increased. Cavanagh moved into the part-time, $37,984-a-year position in 2001. According to the minutes, he was at the 2007 Fire Commission meeting at which his hours were increased from 20 to 28 a week (as he had been requesting). "I guess I was there because the minutes say I was. I have no explanation. It was not intentional," Cavanagh, in echoes of Alberto Gonzales, told the New Haven Register. He also apparently did not think to ask why his pay had been increased by nearly $2,000 a year. It was not discovered Cavanagh was still working 20 hours a week until town officials noticed certain inspections were not being made on schedule. The town also says it can't force him to give back the nearly $10,000 for which he has been overpaid.

  13. The Mercurial Gallery in Danbury highlights the work of Connecticut tattoo artists

Body of Work is a new exhibit at Danbury's Mercurial Gallery that highlights the work of five Connecticut tattoo artists: Eric Chapman and Bretnon Vaughan of New Milford's Canvas Tattoo, Chris Tavino, owner of Danbury's Hat City Tattoo, Mark Fernicola of New Haven and Christopher Olszewski, an apprentice at West Haven Tattoo. Come browse the walls and maybe get some ideas or inspiration for your next piece. And if traditional stuffy art exhibits typically don't appeal to your badass self, this could be a nice crossover to ease your way into the world of visual art.

  23. Crime & Punishment: Teen arrested for carving phallic symbols into cop car with a rock

Tracey Scalzi is not a registered lobbyist. Nonetheless, Scalzi, who owns tobacco shops in Norwalk and Orange, reportedly approached state legislators to discuss pending legislation, a bill to license smoke shops, and she did so in a lobby — specifically the lobby within the women's restroom of the General Assembly. "She ignored the lobbyist ropes that restrict their access and chased us down, even in the ladies room," State Rep. Lonnie Reed (D-Branford) griped to the Branford Eagle news website. Reed claims that Scalzi spent hours in that restroom on the final days of the legislative session in order to "grab the unsuspecting." Reed was further irritated that Scalzi, who is reportedly in league with a Virginia law firm that often represents tobacco companies, spoke in the lingo of lobbyists and had a book of legislator photos and contact info commonly carried by them.
