9. Prada, Baz Luhrmann fete 'Great Gatsby' costumes on starry night

Director/producer/writer Baz Luhrmann must be pretty proud of his latest offering, "The Great Gatsby," due out May 10. At least it looked that way Tuesday night in New York at Prada's cocktail reception kicking off the SoHo store's exhibit of the movie's costumes, designed by Luhrmann's wife, Oscar-winning costume designer Catherine Martin, in collaboration with fashion designer Miuccia Prada. One might say he embodied the phrase "busting his buttons" (as seen here). Some of the movie's stars -- Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire and Isla Fisher -- attended, as did Katy Perry, Florence Welch and Maggie Gyllenhaal. [WWD]

  11. 'I'll Eat You Last' chronicles Sue Mengers' old Hollywood

A Hollywood striver in the 1970s would have learned oodles from Sue Mengers — how to woo a client, sass a studio exec, host a dinner party, smoke a joint. And, had she pulled up a seat in Mengers' Beverly Hills living room one particularly gloomy day in the agent's career in 1981, she would have learned how it feels when the town's warm winds suddenly blow cold.

  15. Review: From rooftops to subways, dancing makes Los Angeles the stage

On an astonishingly busy weekend of dance, Angelenos had the good fortune Saturday to experience two exceptional site-specific performances: the local debut of Trisha Brown’s historic “Roof Piece” at the Getty Center and the premiere of Stephan Koplowitz’s “Red Line Time,” a marathon circuitous journey on the downtown-to-North Hollywood Metro line.

The point — or at least one point — of Trisha Brown’s dance is that it can’t be pinned down. Literally or metaphorically. She has always liked, for instance, to leave the ground. So, along with two programs in Royce Hall on...

  21. Designer Greg Chait: Ready for his close-up?

When Greg Chait won the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award in New York City last month, the man behind the Elder Statesman line of ultra-luxury cashmere knits — think $5,525 blankets, $1,890 belted cardigan sweaters and $380 ski caps — was practically unknown outside the fashion industry. And he was only slightly better known within it.
