Last season, the Galax Maroon Tide won nine games under first year head coach Mark Dixon, a former star at UVA and with the Miami Dolphins. Dixon has his team primed for another run this year, starting Friday night against Glenvar and Virginia Tech commit Seth Dooley.
But the visitors from Galax were cool under fire early on. Austin Pack finds Deion George on the swing pass, and George converts a key third down with the run after the catch to put the Tide in scoring position.
Three plays later, it's the same combo. Pack to George on the deep 30 yard touchdown pass, and Galax was on top 7 to nothing.
But Glenvar had an answer. Ean Cole working hard for yards. He spins and rumbles his way inside the Galax 15 yard line for a Highlanders first down.
Jacob Mabry then gets it done, despite dropping the snap, he recovers in time to throw a dart to Tyler Hanie for a score just before the half. That tied it at 7. Galax went on to beat Glenvar Friday night in overtime 17 to 14.
