The Saints trailed for the entire first half, and didn't get their first lead of the game until Drew Brees found Robert Meachem on a two-yard touchdown early in the third quarter that gave them a 17-16 lead. There were five lead changes in the second half. The Saints rallied again in the 4th quarter, down 26-24 after a Jimmy Graham touchdown catch, Jabari Greer intercepted Matt Schaub. With the short field, Brees hooked up with Lance Moore on a 16 yard touchdown pass and then again on the two point conversion, giving the Saints a 32-26 lead.
Brees finished with 370 yards, 3 touchdowns, and two interceptions. The fourth quarter scoring was constant. Matt Schaub threw a pass that bounced off Joel Dressen, was bobbled by Jonathan Casillas and somehow ended up in the hands of Kevin Walter who took off for the endzone and gave the Texans a one point lead. The Saints took the lead for good when Mark Ingram ran in his first career touchdown with 2:42 left in the fourth quarter.
Lance Moore caught a touchdown, and a pair of two point conversions. He finished with 88 yards. Jimmy Graham lead the way with 100 receiving yards, and a touchdown. Darren Sproles had a 30 yard touchdown run in the first quarter.
Steve Gleason was the honorary captain for the Saints. He's best remebered for his blocked punt five years ago versus the Falcons when the Superdome reopened in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. He's now suffering from Lou Gehrig's disease.
The Saints play their next three games on the road, starting with the Jacksonville Jaguars next Sunday.
