NEW ORLEANS—Hornets general manager Dell Demps continues to be a busy bee.
Saturday night, the Hornets dealt a conditional first round pick to Portland for guard Jerryd Bayless. Bayless, 6-3, is 23 years old. He's projected to be the backup point guard behind Chris Paul.
Bayless is known as a fearless competitor who will attack the basket. He averaged 13.5 points and 3.8 assists in last year's playoffs for Portland.
In a team news release, Demps said of Bayless, "He is an explosive young guard who will come in and help us right away."
The Oregonian newspaper said the Hornets first round pick is "protected". The Blazers will get the Hornets 2011 first round pick if the pick is not top 7 in the draft. The pick is top 8 protected in 2012 thru 2014. In 2015, Portland would get two second round picks.
6 players on the Hornets 15 man roster have been acquired via trade by Demps.
