Six Flags Great America - Gurnee, Illinois
For the "staycationer", only a 45-minute drive from Chicago, Six Flags Great America is fun for the whole family with 13 roller coasters, a free 20-acre water park, spectacular shows and parades, family rides and four children's areas including Wiggles World and over 35 rides for the little ones.
If you prefer to stay overnight in Gurnee, I recommend staying at Key Lime Cove Waterpark and Resort - a tropical inspired indoor waterpark resort located three blocks away from Six Flags. Rates for double rooms, which can sleep up to 6 people, start at $195 and include admission to the waterpark.
The park's newest addition, Buccaneer Battle, is a pirate-themed water attraction featuring ships, water guns, waves and special effects.
