Lombard's deputy police chief is being called a hero in Europe for making a special delivery that helped win the Ryder Cup.

Deputy Chief Pat Rollins is the subject of tabloid articles, B.B.C. reports and glowing tweets from across the pond.

Rollins gave top ranked golfer Rory McIlroy a ride through traffic from his hotel to Medinah County Club just in time for his match on Sunday.

McIlroy says he got his tee time mixed up after watching tv coverage that kept showing it in Eastern Time. He thought he teed off at 12:25 rather than 11:25 Chicago time.

Missing the tee time would have resulted in a forfeit and a point for the American team, which in the end really could have used it.

The Euros, with McIlroy's help, stormed back from a four point deficit heading into Sunday's singles matches.  It tied the biggest one-day comeback achieved by the U.S. team in 1999 at Brookline Country Club near Boston.

Rollins is taking some good natured heat for helping the Europeans. But he says he and his department did the right thing.
