is asking for a re-trial with new defense attorneys.
Peterson was convicted of murdering his third wife, Kathleen Savio
; since then his legal team has endured one firing, one resignation and a lot of finger-pointing.
Now two new attorneys, John Paul Carroll and Michelle Gonzalez, have filed a motion saying Peterson's lead attorney Joel Brodsky went into his first murder trial unprepared and incompetent, so Peterson didn't get adequate representation.
Gonzalez says Brodsky made a huge mistake by calling Savio’s divorce lawyer Harry Smith as a witness; jurors said after the trial that Smith’s testimony ended up supporting the prosecution's murder case.
Gonzalez says Brodsky was also wrong to encourage Peterson to seek a lot of publicity before the trial; for his part, Brodsky tells WGN-TV that Peterson has not told him he's hired any new attorneys.
