The U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Indiana has announced indictments against five public officials throughout Northwest Indiana.

Virlissa Crenshaw, 42 of East Chicago, Indiana was charged with theft from a local government entity and with filing a false tax return for the 2009 tax year.  Crenshaw was a clerk with the Merrillville Town Court and is accused of stealing cash bond whle working for the Merrilllville Town Court.

Marilyn Krusas, 69, of Gary, Indiana was charged with one count of income tax evasion.  Krusas is a Gary city councilwoman.  Authorities say she has failed to file tax returns since 1991.

Manuel Mantalvo, 38, of East Chicago was charged with two counts of filing false tax returns for the tax years 2009 and 2010.  Mantalvo is the former Director of the East Chicago Public Library.

Juda Parks, 40, of East Chicago, was charged with two counts of failure to file income tax returns for the tax years 2008 and 2009. Parks is an East Chicago city councilman.

Alfonso Salinas, 52, of Hammond, Indiana was charged with accepting a bribe from a tree service owner in exchange for giving the company business in Hammond.   Salinas is Hammond's Second District councilman.

The tree service owner, David Johnson, of Munster, Indiana is charged with bribing a public official.
