Two separate apartment fires broke out in the Fordham section of the Bronx early Monday morning, killing one person and critically injuring another.

The first fire was reported just after 2:30 a.m. on the third floor of a six-story apartment building located at 2545 Valentine Avenue, near the historic Edgar Allan Poe Cottage.

The blaze was declared an all-hands fire and the 60 firefighters who responded to the scene were able to bring it under control within half an hour.

One person died as a result of the fire, but no futher details were immediately available.

The second fire occurred about three hours later at 5:40 a.m. at 15 North Street, near Jerome Avenue. The blaze was also on the third floor of a six-story apartment building and was about 10 blocks away from the blaze on Valentine Avenue.

The fire was brought under control by 6:16 a.m., and one person is in critical condition, according to fire officials.

The cause of the fires is under investigation.
