The LaPorte County Coroner is working to learn the identity of a man killed early Friday morning when he stepped off a curb and into the path of a semi tractor-trailer.
The white male is between 60 and 70 years old, police believe. The man died at the scene, according to Michigan City Police Lt. Jeff Loniewski, via news release.
Police said a black 2007 Kenworth semi tractor-trailer, unit owned by Worldwide Shippers of LaPorte, was traveling north Ohio Street and approaching the U.S. 20 intersection when the accident occurred.
The semi driver, 42-year-old Larry Waters of Snow Hill, MD, was not physically injured, police said.
Michigan City Police continue to investigate the accident.
