HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut child advocacy group says the state's own figures show that subsidizing the entertainment industry has been a losing cause.
Connecticut Voices for Children released a study Monday claiming that the program has not generated cash for the state, but has cost it.
The group says data from the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism shows the state has been hoodwinked by the entertainment industry.
The report says the state has awarded $2.73 in production tax credits for every dollar of actual spending on the production of films, television shows, commercials, infomercials, and video games.
Gov. M. Jodi Rell has proposed capping the credit program. But members of the state's growing film, video and digital media industry called the move shortsighted.
