EAST HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut police have made an arrest in a hit-and-run accident that critically injured a 43-year-old man in East Haven.
Twenty-one-year-old Jehiel Ayala of Meriden was charged Monday with first-degree assault and several other crimes. He is being held in lieu of $750,000 bail and is to appear in Superior Court on Tuesday.
Police say the victim was lying on the ground with life-threatening injuries when they responded to a fight in a school parking lot shortly after 1 a.m. Monday. Two people in Ayala's car were charged in connection with the fight.
The victim's name has not been released. He's being treated at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Witnesses say two men got into a fight over a girl, and the hit-and-run victim is that girl's father.
