The Mars rover has been exploring the red planet for a couple weeks now, so it’s about time they got to the important stuff: playing dance music. The rover has beamed out its first song, and it’s a tune by none other than Will.I.Am of the Black-Eyed Peas. Someone needs to explain to me why they didn’t choose David Bowie. Seems like the obvious choice. Here’s more from USA Today:

Launched with Curiosity aboard an Atlas V rocket at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station last November, the song — entitled "Reach For The Stars" — is the first musical composition to be transmitted to Earth from another planet.

If there are Martians, they must be so confused. These new visitors are brilliant enough to create the technology to explore distant planets light years away, yet they’re stupid enough to listen to some generic auto-tuned dance track. If I ran NASA, and Mars sent a probe here, and it was playing some Fergie song, I’d be like, “eh, we’re good, no need to contact them back.”
