After suffering a hamstring injury early in the Colts game against the Chiefs, Addai has had just two carries. Those came the week after against New Orleans, and he was taken out quickly by the Colts medical staff and hasn't returned since.
Now with a bye week ahead, Addai hopes that the game against the Panthers on November 27th could finally be his return to the lineup.
“Hopefully," said Addai when asked about a possible return in the Colts' next game. "I’ve got that whole week to just relax and let the hamstring kind of rest. I was really kind of hoping that of I’d be back for the Saints game, but a hamstring kind of lingers and kind of goes on or whatever.
"But this bye week will kind of let me rest a little bit.”
There originally was thought that Addai could return against Jacksonville Sunday, but the lingering nature of the injury ruled that out.
"I didn’t feel like I could go during the week. At the skill position, whether it be quarterback, DB (defensive back) and those positions, you’ve got to be able to take off whenever and it’s just instincts," said Addai. "If I’m in practice I can kind of monitor that, but a game situation, that’s totally different. That’s the part that I was having trouble with.”
Is It Controversy Time?
After back-to-back games of fourth quarter signal caller replacements, the question of whether Dan Orlovsky is about to supplant Curtis Painter as the starting quarterback is beginning to gain some steam.
Jim Caldwell wasn't ready to commit to one or the other on Monday since the Cotls' next game is almost two weeks away.
"We’re in that evaluation process right now," said Caldwell of deciding between quarterbacks. "Another good thing about the bye week is that we get a chance to really sit down, take a look at everybody across the board, make certain that we have people in the right position and see where we want to go from this point forward."
After a somewhat promising start, Painter has fallen off since throwing for 277 yards in a loss to the Chiefs. Since that afternoon Painter has completed 61-of-112 passes (54 percent completion percentage) for 509 yards with no touchdowns and six interceptions.
His combined passer rating is 42.6, but Painter wasn't ready to talk about his possible status on Monday.
"It’s not really for me to think about or necessarily worry about," said Painter when asked if he might be replaced as the starter. "All I have to do is just continue to work and get better, and those things will unfold how they do.
"I’ve never really been in that business to worry about that, and I’ve just been going out there and working hard and just improving.”
Does Polian Feel The Luck?
But on "The Bill Polian Show" Monday night on 1070 The Fan, the Colts Vice Chairman said that he will be in attendance for the Cardinal's game against California Saturday night in Palo Alto.
While he did say that he's looking at a number of prospects as possible draft picks, Polian insists that he'll take a quarterback if things play out right.
"The bottom line is that if the right person is there-and it has to be the right person-now is the time to consider that," said Polian. "Peyton (Manning) and I have spoken about that and he's fine with it."
Stat Of The Week -340
It was on that day that Justin led the 0-10 squad to a 41-38 upset win over defending champion Green Bay. He led a late drive that set up Cary Blanchard's 20-yard game-winning field goal.
