SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Former Notre Dame and NFL defensive tackle Bryant Young is joining Irish coach Charlie Weis' staff as a graduate assistant.
Young played 14 years with the San Francisco 49ers. He says he took a year off after retiring at the end of the 2007 season because he wanted to decide what to do with the rest of his life.
Now the four-time Pro Bowler calls returning to Notre Dame a "no brainer."
Young led the Irish in sacks three straight seasons. He was the seventh overall pick by the 49ers in 1994. No Notre Dame player has been drafted that high since then.
