Oscar winner Richard Dreyfuss is reportedly in final negotiations to play Vice President Dick Cheney in Oliver Stone's "W," filling out one of the film's last key roles.
Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Banks are already toplining "W" as George W. Bush and Laura Bush respectively.
The look at the second Bush Presidency and his formative years also features James Cromwell (George Bush Senior), Ellen Burstyn (Barbara Bush), Thandie Newton ( Condoleezza Rice), Jeffrey Wright (Colin Powell), Scott Glenn (Donald Rumsfeld) and Ioan Gruffudd ( Tony Blair).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Stone and Lionsgate are planning both an October theatrical release before the U.S. election, followed by a quick turnaround to DVD by January, when Bush's tenure in the White House officially ends.
Production on "W," which will be made on a budget of under $30 million, began earlier this month.
Dreyfuss is no stranger to playing controversial authority figures, including his banana republic dictator in "Moon Over Parador," his Republican senator in "The American President" and his Alexander Haig in "The Day Reagan Was Shot." He was most recently seen as the Wizard of Oz equivalent in the Sci Fi Channel's "Tin Man."
