It was a big summer for superheroes, and even though this DC Comics adaptation wasn't the best-reviewed of those movies, director Martin Campbell ("Casino Royale") provides genre fans a lot of fantastic sights to look at.
Ryan Reynolds trades on his humorous image - and a dramatically refined physique - as Hal Jordan, a test pilot who inherits a very special ring that makes him a guardian of the universe. Of course, there's a villain (Peter Sarsgaard) for him to deal with, as well as a love interest (Blake Lively, "Gossip Girl"). Tim Robbins, Mark Strong, Angela Bassett and Jay O. Sanders also star. *** (PG-13: AS, P, V) (Also on Blu-ray and Movies on Demand)
