Being a young superhero might have its appeal, but those who tackle it in director Matthew Vaughn's ("Layer Cake") fantasy-adventure - based on a comic-book series - find it much rougher turf than they thought. A youth (Aaron Johnson) makes himself a self-styled avenger of crime, eventually aligning with a similar vigilante (Chloe Grace Moretz) ... and facing very real danger as they oppose a drug dealer.
Nicolas Cage, Christopher Mintz-Plasse ("Superbad") and Mark Strong ( "Sherlock Holmes") also star in the film, which has harsher violence than some may expect. DVD extras: audio commentary by Vaughn; "making-of" documentary; art gallery. *** (R: AS, P, V) (Also on Blu-ray)
