Anne Hathaway will take the lead in "Passengers," a supernatural thriller from director Rodrigo Garcia.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film focuses on a grief counselor (Hathaway) working with six plane-crash survivors. When the survivors begin to disappear, she begins to wonder if there's a conspiracy afoot. Not to spoil anything, but she's probably right.
Production will begin in early 2007 with Mandate Pictures financing and Columbia Pictures set to distribute. The script was written by Ronnie Christensen.
The film marks a change of pace for Garcia, whose feature credits include the ensembles "Things You Can Tell Just by Looking at Her" and "Nine Lives." His small screen credits include HBO dramas like "Big Love" and "Carnivale."
Hathaway, most recently seen in the summer hit "The Devil Wears Prada," has completed work as Jane Austen in "Becoming Jane" and has booked the female lead in the big screen version of "Get Smart."
