Super Bowl commercial star Justin Timberlake will lead the cast of the indie drama "The Open Road" along with Jeff Bridges, Mary Steenburgen and Kate Mara.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film focuses on a son (Timberlake) struggling to reconnect with his father (Bridges). Steenburgen will play the ailing mother. The trade doesn't say what role Mara will play, but "sister" or "love interest" seem like the two most likely options.
Michael Meredith is directing, with Odd Lot Entertainment producing.
While Timberlake has achieved several stages of stardom in the music world, he's still waiting to find the same kind of success as an actor, unless you count his vocal turn in the smash "Shrek the Third." His live action credits have included "Alpha Dog," "Southland Tales" and "Black Snake Moan." Bigger box office seems likely with his upcoming comedy "The Love Guru."
Four-time Oscar nominee Bridges has been recently seen in "Stick It," "The Door in the Floor" and "Seabiscuit." He'll be seen in this summer's "Iron Man" movie.
Oscar winner Steenburgen was a regular on "Joan of Arcadia" and has appeared on the big screen in "Inland Empire," "The Dead Girl" and "The Brave One."
Mara last appeared in "Shooter" and "We Are Marshall."
