Sigourney Weaver will reunite will her "Aliens" director James Cameron on his 3-D extravaganza "Avatar."
In addition to Weaver, the $200-million-plus epic has added Joel David Moore ("Dodgeball"), CCH Pounder ("The Shield"), Peter Mensah ("Hidalgo"), Laz Alonso ("Stomp the Yard") and Wes Studi ("The New World") to a cast led by Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana.
According to Variety, Weaver will play a veteran interstellar explorer who mentors Worthington's ex-Marine, who ends up leading a planet's indigenous critters in a war against human exploiters.
Production on the 20th Century Fox film will begin in April with a 2009 release date already slated. Peter Jackson's Weta effects house will handle the ambitious effects.
In addition to the "Alien" franchise, Weaver's credits include Oscar nominations for "Working Girl" and "Gorillas in the Mist." She'll next be seen in "The TV Set" and "Vantage Point."
