New pub at MGM Grand is anything but typical

Chef Michael Mina is taking a step back from his usual fine dining with the just-opened (June 18) Pub 1842 at the MGM Grand. And while the place has the look and feel of many neighborhood bars, the “pub grub” is far from ordinary.

Mina – a well-established chef whose other Sin City outposts include American Fish at Aria and his namesake Michael Mina at Bellagio - has brought his creative culinary skills to his newest eatery with dishes diners are unlikely to find elsewhere.

The place features a wide variety of burgers, but they’re far from the traditional fare. His peanut butter crunch burger ($17) is topped with bacon jam, potato chips and pimento cheese. The vegetarian falafel burger ($15) highlights the chef’s mother’s falafel recipe.

Mina also offers lobster corn dogs ($14), for which he has replaced the lowly hot dog with chunks of lobster.

The pub is named after the year in which modern Pilsner was created. Therefore, it’s not surprising that more than 60 Pilsners, stouts and lagers are available.

To round out the “corner bar” ambience, ping pong and darts are provided to help pass the time with friends.

Pub 1842 is open from 11:30 a.m. to midnight, and until 1 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
