Medium.com an open book for writers, readers and armchair travelers

Share

Before reading and writing become a lost art, here they are, romancing digital devices. The question is: Do you want to be a writer or a reader?

Name: Medium.com

What it does: A blog publishing platform founded by Ev Williams and Biz Stone (also founders of Twitter) that is every bit for readers as it is for writers.

What’s hot: It is extremely easy to read and/or publish, with a magazine-like feel without the advertising. As it pertains to travel, if you’re looking to read adventure travel stories, learn ways to search for the best travel deals or catch up on a long-lost online literary travel gem, armchair travelers have a new and beautiful home. Sit back, pour a cuppa and enjoy.

What’s not: It’d be great if the search bar were more upfront. Instead, you must sign in with Twitter or Facebook, go to the capital letter “M” in the upper left-hand corner and scroll down to collections. From there, you get a search bar and can look up “Travel,” “New York Stories,” “Midnight in Paris,” “Camping and Hiking Destinations” or whatever topic your heart desires. Note: The site has been around for two years, but some destinations still don’t have stories in them. Don’t get discouraged if something isn’t there; you can start your own collection.
