Dallas: Can't they all just get along? At this zoo, they do
The Giants of the Savanna at the Dallas Zoo features elephants, of course. But unlike many zoos, this one incorporates other animals into the elephant area so they interact as they would in the wild. Thus you'll see impalas, guinea fowls, zebras, giraffes and ostriches together. It's a novel approach--the zoo says it's the only one in North America and only the second in the world to exhibit animals this way--but one that has won praise from at least one expert. Jack Hanna, director emeritus of the Columbus, Ohio, Zoo and Aquarium, thinks this may be the model for elephant habitats.
