California Bucket List: Strange vibrations near Joshua Tree, monarch butterflies, startling urban archaeology and a new adventure each day


On Monday, Brian Morningstar, right, and Scott Streeper from Pyro Spectaculars work to install several thousand pyrotechnic shots used to create the upcoming T-Mobile New Year's at the Needle fireworks display at the top of the Space Needle in Seattle. The show lasts eight minutes and will be set to a musical score of contemporary pop, rock and hip-hop. Seattle and Los Angeles are in the same time zone so will celebrate at the stroke of their midnight.
