Fest’s rides and recipes will make you cuckoo for coconuts in Kauai

Share

Guests will be going cuckoo for coconuts at an upcoming festival along -- where else? -- the Royal Coconut Coast of Kauai.

The coconut’s many uses, some of them downright zany, will be embraced during the annual festival in Kapaa Beach Park, Oct. 3 and 4.

To no one’s surprise, the emphasis will be on food. Amateurs and professionals alike will compete in a cooking competition using original recipes that include coconut meat, milk or water. Kauai chefs will demonstrate how to prepare tasty dishes featuring coconut. And, there will be a pie eating contest – coconut cream, of course.

Guests can test their skills at various carnival-style games adapted to the festival theme. For example, ever tried bowling using a coconut instead of a ball?

Children can enjoy craft activities including coconut painting.

The Coconut Festival runs 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5. Kids 12 and younger are free.

The Royal Coconut Coast lines the east side of Kauai and is the island’s most populated region.
