The sprawling Hotel del Coronado near San Diego has been welcoming beach-lovers since 1888. Here’s a chance to join the crowd. The resort with the landmark red tower is reducing room rates to as low as $229 a night. The rate is good for stays through December but you must book by Friday to get the deal.

The deal: The 3-Day Summer Sale applies to older, smaller Victorian-style rooms that have one queen bed and no ocean view. Some find these rooms creaky; some find them quaint. Newer sections of the hotel include ocean tower rooms and pool-side cabana rooms.

The deal also comes with a reduced parking rate -- $10 instead of $25 per night to self-park -- and 25% off the price of a second room. The $229 rate doesn’t include tax and the resort fee, which adds $25 per night. Use the promo code “SUMMER” when making a reservation.

When: The offer is good for stays from Sunday to Dec. 20, based on availability, but you must book by 9 p.m. PST Friday.

Tested: I went to the hotel’s website and found the $229 rate for a two-night stay starting June 10. To check the savings, I found the best available rate for the same room on the same dates without the sale, which was $50 more per night and doesn’t include the reduced parking rate.

Like this?: If you spread the word and the hotel receives 2,500 Facebook “likes” for this deal (the “like” button is on the summer sale page), it will give Summer Sale guests a $25 voucher good at the hotel. Check the hotel’s website Sunday to see the results.
