The U.S. Grant in San Diego and the Titanic are of the same era and style. The hotel in the city’s Gaslamp Quarter opened in 1910, two years before the ship set off on its tragic maiden voyage. With a price tag of $1.9 million, the hotel, too, became a symbol of luxury.

The Grant marks the centennial of the ship’s sinking with a package meant to evoke the glamour of the storied liner. It includes a $100 dining credit and admission to see the Titanic artifacts exhibition at the San Diego Natural History Museum.

The deal: The Legend & Luxury of the Titanic package starts at $299 plus tax per night. There’s no minimum stay, but it is a prepaid deal. It comes with a $100 dining credit at the hotel’s Grant Grill, two cocktails and two tickets to see “Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition.” Use the promotion code “LCPKG1” when making a reservation.

When: The offer is good through Sept. 9, when the museum exhibition ends.

Tested: I checked online and found a room available one or two nights starting May 11 (I found the package for other random dates too). There are cheaper rooms, but the package offers some nice savings for those who want the Titanic extras.

Let’s start with the dining credit: You could be conservative and squeeze out two meals or splurge on a special Titanic Tea for two ($47 per person, 1-3 p.m. May 12). The free cocktails usually cost $12-$15 each, and the free Titanic tickets usually cost $27 each. So provided you spend down the credit and take advantage of the extras, the room cost comes out to about $121 plus tax a night.
