Las Vegas: Food & Wine All-Star Weekend celebrates good taste

Foodies will get their fill when the Food & Wine All-Star Weekend returns Oct. 4-6 to Las Vegas. At a poolside party, for instance, guests will be encouraged to try 10 kinds of burgers.

Nine events during the weekend, most hosted by celebrity chefs, will be staged at Aria, Bellagio and MGM Grand. They are open only to adults 21 and older. Prices vary by activity.

The fourth annual foodies weekend will officially launch at 8 p.m. Oct. 4 with “First Course Kick-Off” at Aria. Guests will be invited to sample appetizers from three of the resort’s restaurants: barMASA, Julian Serrano and Sage. Moet & Chandon and Veuve Clicquot Champagnes will be served during the three-hour celebration at Aria’s View Bar.

Chefs Masa Takayama, Julian Serrano and Shawn McClain will mingle with partyers. Admission is $135.

Oct. 5 events include a new “Burger Bash” will be poolside at MGM Grand and will be hosted by noted chefs Joel Robuchon and Michael Mina. They will judge burgers prepared by 10 of the resort’s restaurants, and guests will be invited to try them all. The feast begins at 1:30 p.m. and costs $100.

The food festival concludes Oct. 6 with the “From Far East to Champagne” brunch at Jasmine, a Chinese restaurant overlooking the fountains at Bellagio.

Jasmine chef Hiew Gun Khong will partner with chefs Akira Back of Yellowtail and Patrick Lee of Noodles as well as Bellagio Executive Chef Edmund Wong. Brunch begins at 11 a.m. and costs $135.
