Las Vegas: Stars (sort of) power trio of tribute shows

The list of superstar tribute shows in Las Vegas is expanding this week.

Beginning Thursday, the long-running “Legends in Concert” opens in its new home at the Flamingo.

On Friday, “Stars in Concert,” the genre’s newest entry, premieres at the free-standing Boulevard Theatre.

And look-alike, sound-alike junkies can add “Tribute Royalty” -- already showing at the V Theater inside the Miracle Mile Shops -- to their Sin City itinerary.

Visitors apparently can’t get enough of the entertainers who earn their salaries imitating Britney Spears, Madonna, Michael Jackson and others. All three shows feature performers who sing live instead of lip-syncing to celebrity tracks.

“Legends in Concert,” which has moved from the former Imperial Palace (now The Quad) to the Flamingo, has been a favorite on the Strip since opening in 1983 for what was supposed to be a six-week engagement. One of its stars, John Anthony, has been portraying Rod Stewart since 1997. The curtain rises at 4 p.m. Sundays-Fridays, with additional 9:30 p.m. shows on Sundays and Mondays.

“Stars in Concert,” imported from Europe after 15 years on the Berlin stage, will pay homage to a range of superstars from Cher and Joe Cocker to Tina Turner and Tom Jones. It has two shows -- at 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. -- Thursdays through Tuesdays. The venue is across Las Vegas Boulevard from the Monte Carlo.

“Tribute Royalty,” its website says, features “the kings and queens of music.” It’s staged at 4 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays.
