Las Vegas: Pool scene starting to heat up at Drai’s, Picnic, Tropicana

As the weather in Las Vegas heats up, resort pools are beginning to open for the season and new venues are sure to bring some extra sizzle to the city this summer.

Drai’s Beach Club launches Memorial Day weekend atop the Cromwell. This is the re-imagined resort opening next month at Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo Road, kitty corner from Bellagio. It’s the former Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall.

Perched on the 11th floor, with splendid views of those famous fountains and other sites along the Strip, Drai’s is hoping to become a place to see and be seen. It’s both a day club and a nightclub, and it will feature entertainment and dining too.

Picnic another rooftop pool experience, recently opened atop the Downtown Grand, the renovated resort that was the Lady Luck in a previous life. It’s sited on the third floor above the casino, and pool-goers can escape from the sun at the picnic tables beneath a large tent.

After dark, guests will be able to watch movies while stretched out on blankets in the grass. Live blackjack will also be available.

Las Vegas’ offerings for the LGBTQ crowd grew with the March 29 arrival of Xposed! The party runs 11 a.m.-6 p.m. each Saturday poolside at the Tropicana. Guests can take in entertainment provided by bronzed go-go dancers and live DJs or join in the beach volleyball action on the white sand courts.
