Mexico: Westin Los Cabos’ mango mania means special drinks, discounts

They’re sending summer out with a sophisticated bang at Westin Resort & Spa Los Cabos, which is in the middle of a mango madness celebration honoring one of Mexico’s most beloved fruits.

The resort is offering specials and introducing new drinks and other menu items through the end of the month in conjunction with its Mango Festival.

There are a thousand types of mangoes; the Criollo variety that is grown in Baja, Mexico, near Los Cabos thrives through the end of August.

“Our Mango Festival gives us the opportunity to showcase one of our region’s most popular summer crops,” said Beat Meier, general manager of Westin Resort & Spa, Los Cabos. “At the same time, we can show off the creativity and talent of our world-class food and beverage staffs.”

Guests can try 10 mango-infused drinks; among them, Mango Mania, a tequila, mango, banana, papaya, and rum drink; Yellow Sea, made with rum, mangoes and Mexican chile; and the alcohol-free Fun and Mango, which combines fresh mango, strawberries and basil.

Other menu additions include appetizers, entrees and desserts, all made using fresh, local mangoes.

Additionally, Executive Chef Manuel Peruyero will be offering cooking classes and cocktail demos for guests throughout August. “The mangoes that we use are grown organically and are chock-full of vitamins, antioxidants and other healthy things,” he said.

The resort’s mango menu specials complement Westin’s superfoods-focused and regular menus, said Peruyero. Superfoods contain ingredients rich in antioxidants and nutrients.

Besides the Mango Festival, the hotel is featuring a Spa Package Getaway, which, for a minimum two-night stay, offers perks that include daily breakfasts, 50-minute spa treatments and chef’s wellness amenities.
