Resolution No. 3: Use public transportation( Justin Sullivan/Getty Images )
I'm going to use public transportation when I travel to an urban area. This requires more planning, and the journey takes longer, but computers and smartphones make it easy enough to figure out routes, times and more. On a recent San Francisco trip, I used the Clipper Card and loaded it at a San Francisco Muni station with a three-day pass for $20, plus a $3 fee for the card. It gave me plenty of transportation bang (Muni, cable cars and more) for those bucks. I also used Transit.511.org for figuring out Bay Area routes. It's not as slick as Transport for London, which I used on a May trip, but it's getting there.
