Rio de Janeiro's mosaics not just for decoration anymore
The iconic black-and-white tiles that decorate the sidewalks of Rio de Janeiro aren't just for looks anymore. The city is using them to create QR codes (two-dimensional barcodes, short for Quick Response) tourists can scan with a mobile device to access information about popular tourist attractions. The first tile mosaic QR code was installed in January at Arpoador rock at the southern end of Rio de Janeiro.
