Deal: Paying to fly your golf bags? It’s on the house at Omni hotels

Share

Here's one way golfers can catch a break on the cost of flying their golf bags. Omni Hotels & Resorts will reimburse bag fees for guests who join their rewards program this summer.

The deal

It's free to enroll in Omni's Select Guest program. You may sign up online or when you arrive at the front desk. Provide a baggage receipt for your golf bag, and the hotel will pay you back.

You also can opt to stay at one of a dozen Omnis that have golf courses too, from California to Florida.

When

The offer is good through Aug. 31.

Details

Clearly the deal only works if the airline you fly charges for your golf bag.

For example, if you fly Southwest Airlines, golf bags are included in its two-bags-free policy. If you pick a carrier that charges for a second bag, you may be paying $25 to $50 or more to bring the clubs along.

Another example: Spirit Airlines charges $31 for a second checked bag (the golf bag qualifies) if you book online or $100 if you book at the gate.

Incidentally, most airlines define a "golf bag" as 14 golf clubs, 12 golf balls and one pair of golf shoes. They also recommend shipping the bag in a hard-sided container too. Note that some carriers have restrictions on weight or size of the golf bag, so read the fine print before you fly.
