This is a hostel? Generator opens its newest location in Paris

If you and a buddy are going on a budget tour of Europe, you might consider a night or two at Generator’s new hostel in Paris.

It opened in February and offers travelers some hip design elements and free Wi-Fi starting, all for less than $30 each a night.

The company’s website says it transformed a “derelict office block” near the Gare du Nord train station into a chic hostel with 920 beds.

Generator has opened hostels in Germany (two in Berlin and one in Hamburg), Copenhagen, Dublin, London and Venice, Italy. It plans to open one in Rome and one in Amsterdam this year.

The company plans to bring its brand of designer hostels to the U.S., starting with Miami, Los Angeles and New York City, possibly as soon as 2016, a spokesman says.

The Paris hostel has shared rooms that come with four, six, eight or 10 beds and start at 25 euros, or about $28 a person. There also are women-only shared rooms, private rooms with twin or double beds, and premium rooms with balconies (starting at 128 euros or $143 a person).

The hostel has a rooftop bar, a club with a dance floor, Fabien Cafe (the hostel is at 9-11 Place du Colonel Fabien in the 10th arrondissement), a garden that yields fresh ingredients for drinks and food, and a lounge to kick back in.

On the practical side, features include showers on every floor (some rooms include them), laundry facilities and a storage room for your luggage.

The registration desk is open 24/7, so you can arrive whenever you want, but make sure you have a reservation in case it’s full.
