Philadelphia deal: Inside look at the hot new Hotel Monaco
Philadelphia recently won a place on Lonely Planet's top U.S. destinations to visit in 2013 for its artsy turn. The relocated Barnes collection and an explosion of art galleries have reshaped the city's stodgy historic rep. The Hotel Monaco, which opened in October, plays up both sides of Philly: decorative and artistic inside, a 1907-era landmark outside.
The deal: This Kimpton hotel offers a Grand Opening discount of up to 20% off its best available rate. The hotel, formerly known as the historic Lafayette Building, has a great central location right next to Independence National Historic Park and the business district. The hotel has 268 rooms, including 17 suites.
When: The offer is good through Dec. 31.
Tested: I checked availability and found a room with one king- or two queen-sized beds for $169 a night plus tax, reduced from $199.
